The Indian Navy highlighted the significance of IOS Sagar’s visit to Sri Lanka in promoting regional peace and maritime security. Crewed by personnel from 16 Friendly Foreign Countries, the ship undertook a port visit to Colombo as part of its operational deployment in the Indian Ocean Region. INS Sunayana, identified as IOS Sagar, received a warm naval welcome upon its arrival at the port of Colombo on May 15.
During their stay, the multinational crew aboard IOS Sagar engaged in professional interaction programs with the Sri Lanka Navy and explored Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage through planned excursions. This collaborative deployment included naval personnel from various countries such as Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates, fostering camaraderie and cooperation among the participating nations.
Prior to its visit to Sri Lanka, IOS Sagar concluded a port call in Chattogram, Bangladesh, where it participated in a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with Bangladesh’s naval vessel BNS Protoy. The exercise aimed at enhancing interoperability and operational cooperation through coordinated maritime drills and advanced surface maneuvers between the two navies. IOS Sagar’s journey aligns with India’s vision of MAHASAGAR, emphasizing mutual advancement for security and growth across regions through unity and partnership.
