The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is set to organize a ceremonial send-off for the 124 members of the Indian contingent participating in 10 sports disciplines at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Notable athletes leading India’s campaign include Neeraj Chopra, Mirabai Chanu, Tajaswin Shanker, and Lovlina Borgohain. The contingent comprises both able-bodied and para athletes, reflecting the inclusive nature of the Glasgow Games.
Indian athletes have diligently prepared for the Commonwealth Games despite a compressed competition program. Neeraj Chopra, a two-time Olympic medalist, returns after missing the previous edition due to injury. Tejaswin Shankar, who recently surpassed the 8,000-point mark in decathlon, is another athlete to watch out for. Mirabai Chanu, back from an injury layoff, is currently training in Birmingham.
The boxing team from India enters the Games in good form, with Sakshi, Preeti, Ankush, and Lovlina Borgohain among the top medal prospects. The send-off ceremony will see the presence of dignitaries like Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and IOA President P. T. Usha. The contingent will be led by Davis Cup captain and coach Rohit Rajpal as Chef de Mission.
The official ceremonial kit for the Indian contingent will be unveiled at the event, designed by Aaquib Wani. Additionally, the Glasgow Games will serve as a learning opportunity for India’s 2030 Ahmedabad Commonwealth Games Observer Programme delegation to study various operational aspects of the event.
