India’s call for the protection of UN peacekeepers in Lebanon comes amidst heightened tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. In a recent incident, three Ghanaian peacekeepers were injured in Southern Lebanon. India’s peacekeeping contingent, comprising 642 personnel, is the second largest in the 7,438-member UNIFIL. Established in 1978, UNIFIL plays a crucial role in monitoring hostilities and supporting the Lebanese government in southern Lebanon.
