Indian Railways has approved the installation of Kavach on 811 km broad gauge sections of the Ambala Division of the Northern Railway, investing Rs 201 crore. The sanctioned work will cover key rail routes like Ambala Cantonment–Ludhiana and Ludhiana–Dhuri–Jakhal sections, crucial for Haryana, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh connectivity.
Kavach, an Automatic Train Protection system, aims to improve operational safety by preventing Signal Passing at Danger and controlling train speed in critical situations. This initiative is part of Indian Railways’ broader plan to enhance safety, reliability, and capacity on significant routes. Projects worth Rs 1,364.45 crore have been greenlit for safety and signalling infrastructure improvements.
The expansion of Kavach across the railway network is a strategic move to reduce collision risks and enhance safety measures. Indian Railways has allocated funds for strengthening communication infrastructure in the Northern Railway, including laying fibre cables and Optical Fiber Communication rooms at stations. These efforts are crucial for modern signaling and Kavach deployment.
