Indian Railways plans to hire over 5,000 ex-servicemen as Pointsmen on a contract basis to swiftly fill vacancies, following a new partnership with the Indian Army. This initiative aims to provide post-retirement job opportunities for Agniveers and transitioning Army personnel, ensuring a smoother transition to civilian careers and offering support for retiring individuals.

The Ministry of Railways will engage ex-servicemen as Pointsmen in various zones on a contractual basis until regular recruitment processes are finalized. Currently, more than 5,000 Level-1 positions are in the pipeline across Zonal and Divisional levels, with nine Railway Divisions already signing MoUs with relevant Army organizations to facilitate the recruitment process.

To expedite appointments, Army recruiting units are actively collaborating with Railway Divisions. This collaboration underscores a mutual commitment to offering meaningful second-career prospects to veterans and aligning with national development objectives. The welfare and resettlement of retired armed forces personnel are integral to Railway policy, with provisions such as horizontal reservations in Level-1 and above posts for ex-servicemen and Agniveers.

Indian Railways has reserved a total of 14,788 posts for ex-servicemen in Railway job notifications for 2024 and 2025, comprising positions in Level-1 as well as Level-2 and above categories. Recruitment for Level-1 roles, previously known as Group D, is managed through Railway Recruitment Centres, while Level-2 and above posts are filled via competitive examinations conducted by Railway Recruitment Boards.
