Three Indian sailors, who were initially reported missing following a US forces’ assault on a ship near Oman, have tragically been confirmed dead in the incident. Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating that the bodies of the deceased sailors have been located and recovered. Efforts are underway to repatriate the bodies for their final rites.
The attack on the Palau-flagged MT Settebello resulted in the tragic loss of the three Indian seafarers, with 21 others rescued from the vessel. Sonowal emphasized the government’s support for the affected families during this challenging time, ensuring immediate repatriation of the rescued crew and swift return of the deceased sailors’ remains.
The oil tanker, carrying a crew of 28 members including 24 Indians and four foreign nationals, was targeted in the Gulf of Oman by US military forces. The US justified the attack by claiming the vessel had violated prescribed instructions, leading to the military intervention.
