Fresh from an impressive Test debut, Indian spinner Manav Suthar is all set to take on a new challenge in English cricket as Warwickshire signs him for the next two County Championship matches. Suthar, aged 23, made a remarkable entry into Test cricket by claiming 7 wickets in his first international appearance against Afghanistan, garnering attention with his stellar performance.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Suthar stated, “I’m incredibly excited to be joining Warwickshire for the next two County Championship games. The team have started the season very well, so I’m hoping that I can play a part in helping them in their push for the title.” Warwickshire sees Suthar’s inclusion as a valuable opportunity to enhance their bowling lineup and benefit from the skills of one of India’s promising young spinners during a crucial phase of the season.
Warwickshire’s Performance Director, James Thomas, commented on the signing, saying, “We’re delighted to welcome Manav to the Bears at a really exciting time for the team. We’ve played some good red-ball cricket already this season, and Manav will bring a new aspect to our bowling attack. It shows how highly he’s rated in India after his selection to their Test team last week, so it’s going to be great to have him around the group.”
Manav Suthar’s journey to prominence has been marked by consistent progress and remarkable achievements. Emerging from Rajasthan’s domestic cricket system, he had already established an impressive first-class record before his international breakthrough, boasting 129 wickets in just 29 matches. Known for his ability to generate sharp turn and bounce, Suthar has become one of the most promising young spinners in Indian cricket circles.
Recognized for his talent, Suthar was part of India’s preparations for the 2023 ODI World Cup, where he caught the eye of senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli while training as a net bowler. Drawing inspiration from the experienced off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, Suthar has also earned praise from Ashwin himself for his skill in imparting significant revolutions on the ball, a trait synonymous with elite spin bowlers.
Scheduled to make his debut for Warwickshire in the Championship match against Yorkshire at Scarborough from June 12 to 15, Suthar is expected to continue with the squad for the subsequent away game against Somerset at Taunton.
