Indian table tennis star Sathiyan Gnanasekaran played a crucial role in guiding Dabang Delhi TTC to a 9-6 victory over Ahmedabad APL Pipers in the Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) Season 7. Sathiyan showcased a stellar performance in the Men’s Singles and Mixed Doubles matches, securing important wins for his team.
Competing at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Delhi and Ahmedabad engaged in a close battle initially. Sathiyan, along with Maria Xiao, turned the tide in favor of Delhi by clinching the mixed doubles match. The Delhi captain then dominated his Men’s Singles match, setting the stage for his team’s third win of the season.
Organized under the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) and supported by Niraj Bajaj and Vita Dani, Butterfly UTT Season 7 boasts a lineup of 42 players worldwide, including 14 Olympians. This event aims to enhance the Indian table tennis landscape through high-level competition and developmental initiatives.
In a thrilling encounter, Youssef Abdelaziz secured a crucial win for Delhi by defeating Adrien Rassenfosse in a tight three-game battle. Sofia Polcanova, a key player for Ahmedabad, leveled the score by triumphing over Maria Xiao. However, Sathiyan and Xiao’s victory in the mixed doubles swung the momentum back in Delhi’s favor.
With the match finely poised, Sathiyan delivered a standout performance by securing a straight-games victory over Payas Jain. Despite a strong effort from Ahmedabad’s Manika Batra, Delhi emerged victorious with a 9-6 scoreline, boosting their chances for the playoffs.
Sathiyan was honored as both the Match IQ Player and Indian Player of the Tie, while Polcanova received the Foreign Player of the Tie award along with the Bisleri Shot of the Tie accolade.
