Around 100 Indian students are set to return from Iran through Armenia on March 14 and March 15, according to the J&K Students Association (JKSA). The students will travel from Iran to Armenia’s Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan before boarding commercial flights back to India. Most students are expected to return on March 14, with the rest arriving on March 15 after departing from different parts of Iran.
The students will be flying on Flydubai flights operating as connecting flights via Dubai to Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), New Delhi. The JKSA had requested the Ministry of External Affairs to facilitate safe transit for the students through the Armenia land route, which has been deemed the most feasible corridor for their return from northwestern Iran. The Ministry acknowledged the request and granted the necessary permissions for the students’ travel arrangements.
Acknowledging that there is no formal evacuation plan in place for Indian students in Iran, the Ministry of External Affairs advised students to avoid sharing their exact locations or personal details on social media platforms for safety reasons. The JKSA is closely coordinating with the Ministry and the Jammu and Kashmir Government to ensure the students’ safe return and onward travel arrangements in India.
