India’s Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaibam clinched the bronze medal in the women’s 58kg weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow. She lifted a total of 199kg, with 87kg in snatch and 112kg in clean and jerk. This achievement added to India’s medal count, which now stands at six, including one gold, three silver, and two bronze medals.
Nigeria’s Rafiatu Folashade Lawal secured the gold medal with a combined lift of 229kg, while Canada’s Ann Sophie Taschereau took the silver with a total of 215kg. Bindyarani was tied with England’s Eliza Pratt after the snatch phase but excelled in the clean and jerk, securing her place on the podium. Despite falling short of her personal best, Bindyarani’s performance earned her a spot among the medalists.
Bindyarani’s bronze medal underscores India’s strong presence in weightlifting at the Glasgow Games. Known for her consistency and skill on the international stage, Bindyarani showcased determination and skill to secure another significant medal for her country. This marks India’s second weightlifting medal of the day, following Gyanehswari Yadav’s silver in the women’s 53 kg category.
