India’s Gyanehswari Yadav secured the silver medal in the women’s 53kg weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games 2026. She achieved a total lift of 199kg, with 88kg in the snatch and 111kg in the clean and jerk, marking a personal best.
Nigeria’s Didih Onome Omolola claimed the gold medal with a total lift of 206kg, while Canada’s Rebeka Groulx took the bronze with 178kg. Yadav displayed consistency by successfully lifting 88kg in the snatch and progressing to 111kg in the clean and jerk.
Yadav’s silver medal contributes to India’s successful weightlifting campaign in Glasgow, alongside Mirabai Chanu’s gold and Raja Muthupandi’s silver. She emerged as a top female lifter in her weight category through impressive performances at national and international competitions.
Gyanehswari Yadav, hailing from Chhattisgarh, began her weightlifting journey at a young age and advanced through the state’s sports system to represent India internationally. She trains at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports in Patiala and has competed in various prestigious events.
