Indian Weightlifters Shine at Commonwealth Games 2026

Indian weightlifters made a mark on Day 4 of the Commonwealth Games 2026. Mirabai Chanu secured gold in the women’s 48kg final, while Rishikanta Singh and Mathupandi Raja claimed silver in the men’s 60kg and 65kg finals, respectively.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya praised the Indian weightlifters’ exceptional performance in Glasgow. Rishikanta Singh started India’s weightlifting campaign with a silver medal in the men’s 60kg event. Mirabai Chanu’s gold in the women’s 48kg marked her third consecutive weightlifting title at the CWG. Raja added to India’s medal tally with a silver in the men’s 65kg final, lifting a total of 286kg.

Rajnath Singh commended Raja Muthupandi for his silver in the Men’s 65kg Weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games 2026. He highlighted Raja’s discipline, resilience, and commitment, wishing him continued success. Mandaviya also congratulated Raja Muthupandi for his silver in the men’s 65kg weightlifting event, calling it a proud moment for Indian weightlifting. Mirabai Chanu received accolades for her gold medal, with her determination and excellence bringing glory to the nation.
