Taniksha Khatri and Prachi Lohan have made history in Indian fencing by becoming the first Indian women’s épée fencers to qualify for the Main Table of 64 at the Senior World Fencing Championships in Hong Kong. Competing in the Women’s Individual Épée event, they advanced through a tough field to secure their spots in the main draw, a significant achievement for Indian women épée fencers.
The Senior World Fencing Championships, hosting over 1,000 fencers from 100 countries, witnessed India’s 24-member contingent competing across foil, épée, and sabre disciplines. Rajeev Mehta, Secretary General of the Fencing Confederation of Asia and the Fencing Association of India, praised Khatri and Lohan’s accomplishment as a groundbreaking moment for Indian fencing, highlighting their talent and dedication.
In the Men’s Individual Foil qualifiers, India’s representatives gained valuable experience internationally, with Sachin leading the Indian contingent at 107th place. Taniksha and Prachi are set to compete in the Women’s Individual Épée Main Table of 64 on July 25, aiming to secure spots in the last 32, while India’s campaign continues with more qualifiers in the following days.
