Indian women’s recurve team caused an upset by defeating 10-time Olympic champions South Korea in the Archery World Cup Stage 2 semifinals. This victory guarantees them a medal in the competition. The women’s team, consisting of Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat, and Kumkum Mohod, overcame the Korean team in a remarkable 5-1 win to advance to the gold medal match against China.
The Indian trio displayed a dominant performance, leading the match from the start and eventually securing a spot in the final. Both teams scored equally in the second set, resulting in a split of set points with India maintaining a 2-1 lead. In the deciding set, India’s exceptional performance, marked by three 10s and an X, sealed their victory and place in the final.
In other events, the compound-mixed team of Ojas and Aditi Gopichand Swami faced a narrow 156-157 defeat against the USA in the quarter-finals. However, the recurve mixed team of Ankita and Dhiraj suffered a close 5-4 loss to Brazil in the opening round match.
During the tournament, the Indian compound men’s team, comprising Ojas Pravin Deotale, Sahil Rajesh Jadhav, and Kushal Dalal, lost in the semifinals to the American team before conceding the bronze medal match to China. The Chinese trio secured the podium place after a closely contested final shoot-off against India.
The women’s compound team of Aditi, Pragati, and Jyothi Surekha Vennam exited the competition following a quarter-final loss to Turkey. Despite some setbacks, Indian archers have showcased their talent and determination on the global stage.
