The Indian women’s cricket team has secured a spot in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, making them among the first qualifiers. In contrast, the men’s team needs to finish as Asia’s highest-ranked side in the ICC Men’s T20I rankings by the end of 2026 for direct qualification.
India, along with Australia, Great Britain (represented by England), and South Africa, have earned places in the women’s T20 competition at LA28. This achievement came after being the highest-placed eligible teams from Asia, Oceania, Europe, and Africa at the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England.
Unlike the men’s event, the women’s competition does not rely on ICC rankings for the first four qualifiers. Instead, the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup acts as the primary qualification tournament. The best-performing eligible team from each continent secures an Olympic berth.
For the men’s qualification, four direct Olympic berths will be determined through the ICC Men’s T20I rankings. The highest-ranked eligible National Olympic Committee (NOC) from Africa, Asia, Europe, and Oceania will qualify automatically based on rankings as of December 31, 2026.
The return of cricket to the Olympic Games at LA28 after 128 years will see six teams competing in both the men’s and women’s T20 events.
