The High Commission of India in Canberra greeted the Indian women’s team before their second T20I against Australia. Led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, the team was hosted at a special reception emphasizing the strong support provided to them while playing abroad. Such interactions offer familiarity and motivation during challenging international tours.
Head coach Amol Muzumdar expressed gratitude on behalf of the team for the warm welcome at the Indian embassy in Australia. He acknowledged the support of the Indian community and the embassy, highlighting how it strengthens and motivates the players. A special moment occurred when Harmanpreet presented a signed team jersey to Irina Thakur, the Acting High Commissioner for India in Canberra, symbolizing appreciation for the High Commission’s backing of Indian athletes.
The reception was significant as India aimed to maintain momentum against a formidable Australian side on their home turf. In the opening T20I, India secured a 21-run victory over Australia through the DLS method. Renuka Singh’s early breakthrough and Arundhati Reddy’s exceptional spell, claiming 4 wickets for 22 runs, were instrumental in India’s success. The rain-interrupted match saw India comfortably clinch the win, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.
