Indian Women’s Hockey Team Triumphs Over Uruguay in FIH World Cup Qualifiers

The Indian women’s hockey team started their FIH Hockey World Cup Qualifiers 2026 journey with a strong 4-0 victory against Uruguay at the G. M. C. Balayogi Hockey Ground in Hyderabad. Sunelita Toppo, Ishika, Lalremsiami, and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal scored the goals for India. The match saw India dominating with multiple circle entries and goal-scoring opportunities from the beginning.

It was in the 21st minute when Sunelita Toppo capitalized on a penalty corner to break the deadlock and give India the lead. Throughout the game, India maintained possession and defensive strength, thwarting Uruguay’s attempts to score. Ishika extended India’s lead in the 40th minute with a well-placed shot, while Rutuja Dadaso Pisal sealed the victory with a powerful strike in the 58th minute.

Rutuja Dadaso Pisal’s impressive performance secured a convincing win for India, setting the stage for their upcoming match against Scotland on March 9 at 7:30 PM IST.
