India’s dominance at the U23 Asian Championships continued as Mansi Lather, Kajal, and Sumit secured gold medals on the second day of the competition in Da Nang, Vietnam. Mansi triumphed in the 68kg category with a commanding 14-1 victory over Uzbekistan’s Firuza Esenbaeva. Kajal and Sumit also showcased impressive performances, winning gold in the 76kg and 63kg categories, respectively.
The Indian contingent not only claimed three gold medals but also secured two silver and three bronze medals. Sweety fought valiantly in her final but settled for silver after a close 5-7 defeat against Vietnam’s Ngoc L. Do. Neha also displayed a spirited effort in the 59kg final but fell short, earning India’s second silver of the day with a 9-5 loss to Uzbekistan’s Laylokhon Sobirova.
Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Sanjay Singh commended the young wrestlers for their outstanding performances, emphasizing the depth and determination of Indian wrestling. He congratulated Mansi, Kajal, Sumit, Sweety, Neha, Ahilya, Neeraj, and Rohit for their medals, acknowledging their hard work and hoping for continued success in future competitions.
In addition to the medal winners, Ahilya S. Shinde secured a bronze medal with a dominant 13-2 victory in her playoff match against Kyrgyzstan’s Arruke Kadyrbek Kyzy. Neeraj Patel also impressed in the Greco-Roman category, securing a bronze in the 55kg division by defeating Kazakhstan’s Rauan Bekimov 8-0. Rohit Bura added to India’s medal tally with a strong performance in the 87kg category, clinching bronze with a convincing 9-0 win over Kyrgyzstan’s Artykbek Alymbek Uulu.
