India’s Manisha and Neha secured gold medals in women’s wrestling at the Ulaanbaatar Open Ranking Series in Mongolia, leading a successful day for Indian wrestlers. The Indian contingent has amassed a total of six medals, including four golds and two bronzes across the Greco-Roman and Women’s Wrestling categories. The Greco-Roman unit wrapped up its campaign with two golds and a bronze, with Sunil and Nitesh clinching gold in their respective weight classes.
Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Sanjay Singh praised the performances of Manisha, Neha, and the Greco-Roman wrestlers, highlighting their competitive prowess at the international level. The victories against strong opponents from DPR Korea and Kazakhstan underscored India’s preparation and quality. Singh expressed optimism for the team’s momentum going forward in the tournament.
In the Women’s Wrestling division, Manisha claimed the 57kg gold by defeating DPR Korea’s Sim Son, while Neha secured the 59kg gold by overcoming Pyol Hong from DPR Korea. Additionally, Neelam secured the 50kg bronze medal with a dominant victory over Kazakhstan’s Maral Tangirbergenova. The Men’s Freestyle division and the remaining Women’s Wrestling weight categories are set to kick off on Saturday.
