India’s data centre development pipeline has expanded to 8.33 GW, surpassing the current operational capacity of 1.6 GW, as per a report by Knight Frank India. This growth is attributed to the increasing adoption of artificial intelligence, cloud services, and data localization requirements. The report highlights India’s attractiveness for investments in hyperscale digital infrastructure, with 0.32 GW under construction and 2.92 GW in the committed stage.
The report also notes that 5.41 GW of capacity is in the early stages of development, reflecting the confidence of hyperscalers, cloud providers, and investors in India’s digital market. Mumbai remains a key location for hyperscale deployments, while Hyderabad is emerging as a favored destination for AI infrastructure. Chennai is strengthening its position as a gateway for international data traffic from the east.
Vizag is rapidly becoming a prominent greenfield data centre market, supported by government backing, land availability, and planned subsea cable connections. The National Capital Region (NCR), Pune, and Bengaluru are experiencing continuous development as operators expand their capacity across various markets.
