India’s education sector has made notable advancements in 2025, propelled by reforms outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, expansion of educational institutions, and global acknowledgment.
Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayaas,” the Union Budget for 2025-26 allocated Rs 1,28,650 crore to the Education Ministry, a 6.22% increase from the previous year, aiming to bridge the skill gap by enhancing access to quality education.
The government has augmented funding for enhancing broadband and internet connectivity in public schools, proposed setting up 50,000 Atal Tinkering Labs to nurture innovation skills, and provided infrastructure support to various educational institutions, including Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and medical colleges.
Additionally, measures have been introduced to promote digital classrooms, e-content in regional languages, teacher training, and skill development, aligning with the transformative goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) to revamp the education system in India.
The Parliament recently passed the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill, 2025, aimed at establishing a unified commission to regulate higher education institutions across the country, streamlining the regulatory framework and fostering excellence in education.
Initiatives like the NIPUN Bharat Mission and PM SHRI scheme have been pivotal in enhancing educational quality, with a focus on foundational literacy, numeracy, and overall improvement of the education system in India.
