India’s first privately developed orbital rocket, Vikram-1, has achieved orbit under Mission Aagaman, marking a significant milestone for the country’s private space sector. Startup Skyroot Aerospace, the builder of the rocket, hailed this achievement as a rare feat globally, emphasizing the successful orbit attainment on its initial launch attempt. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) lauded Skyroot for this accomplishment, highlighting the collaborative efforts that made the launch possible.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the mission as a historic advancement in India’s space exploration journey, encouraging the nation to commemorate this success. Filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli also commended the achievement, spotlighting the young team responsible for Vikram-1’s success. Skyroot’s Vikram-1, developed by a team with an average age of 28 from Hyderabad, has made history with its flawless launch.

The successful launch of Vikram-1 was facilitated by the implementation of the Indian Space Policy 2023, which has opened up the space sector for private participation. This policy has accelerated innovation, investment, and entrepreneurship in satellite manufacturing, launch services, and other space-related activities. India’s space economy, currently valued at around $8.4 billion, is projected to expand significantly to $40–45 billion by 2030, reflecting the sector’s growth potential.
