India’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Suneet Mehta, met with Fiji’s Minister for Policing and Communications, Ioane Naivalurua, to discuss enhancing collaboration in cybersecurity, law enforcement, digital resilience, and capacity building. The Indian High Commission in Fiji emphasized the commitment to deeper cooperation in these areas. Both countries are working towards a safer, secure, and digitally empowered future.
The Indian High Commission and the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre in Suva distributed books at the DAV Boys School in Fiji. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of empowering youth through education and strengthening global cultural connections. The distribution of books aims to nurture holistic development and deepen the enduring friendship between India and Fiji.
High Commissioner Suneet Mehta handed over cowpea seeds to farmers in Volivoli Village in Sigatoka, continuing India’s support to Fiji’s agricultural sector. The distribution of cowpea seeds has led to improved harvests, enhanced food security, and increased incomes for local farmers. This effort underscores India’s dedication to sustainable farming, rural empowerment, and shared prosperity.
Mehta also presented cowpea seeds to 100 farmers in Nadi, emphasizing the importance of strengthening food security and supporting local farmers. The success of previous cowpea seed distributions has enabled Fiji to become an exporter of cowpea seeds in a short period. This initiative has significantly impacted farmers’ livelihoods and agricultural productivity in the region.
India and Fiji share a relationship built on mutual respect, cooperation, and strong cultural and people-to-people ties. The historical ties between the two countries date back to 1879 when Indian laborers were brought to Fiji under the British indenture system. Over the years, India has actively supported Fiji in various nation-building endeavors, focusing on capacity building and key sector development.
