Following a two-year hiatus triggered by demonstrations in July 2024, India has restarted issuing tourist visas to Bangladeshi citizens. High Commissioner Trivedi announced the resumption of general travel visas during his visit to the Indian Visa Application Centre in Dhaka. He also mentioned that urgent medical visas would continue to be provided for humanitarian reasons.
Trivedi outlined plans to offer visa services at five centers across Bangladesh, starting with locations in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chittagong, Sylhet, and Khulna. The High Commissioner visited the Indian Visa Application Centre at Jamuna Future Park to oversee visa operations, emphasizing its role as a key facilitation center for people-to-people exchanges between India and Bangladesh.
Arriving in Dhaka via the Petrapole-Benapole border crossing on June 12, Trivedi’s entry symbolized the significance of border connectivity in Bangladesh-India relations. His focus on strengthening ties between the two neighboring countries was underscored by the warm welcome he received upon crossing the border checkpoint.
