India’s high jumper Pooja broke the national and meet records at the 22nd Asian U20 Athletics Championships in Hong Kong. She clinched the gold medal with a jump of 1.93m, surpassing the previous national record of 1.92m set in 2012. Pooja also outperformed the Asian U20 meet record set in 2006.
Race walker Nitin Gupta secured the top spot in the men’s 5000m race walk with a time of 19:47.49 seconds. Although he missed his own Asian U20 record, Amanat Kamboj and Rahul Jakhar added to India’s gold medal count in discus throw and decathlon, respectively. Sadhana Ravi won silver in the women’s triple jump.
Neeru Pathak claimed a bronze in the women’s 400m, while Royshan P and Mansi Avinash Yadav finished in the men’s triple jump and women’s 3,000m steeplechase events, respectively. Nipam, a young Indian sprinter, secured a bronze in the U20 women’s 100m event. Dana Noor Salem of Qatar clinched the gold medal in the same event.
