India’s burgeoning AI sector presents an opportunity for the US to strengthen its position in artificial intelligence adoption. With tech giants like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon investing heavily in AI hubs in India, the country could play a crucial role in shaping the global digital landscape. While the US leads in cutting-edge AI models, China’s innovation capabilities pose a challenge, making India’s talent pool and data resources essential for American competitiveness.

The vast population in India offers a rich dataset for testing AI applications across diverse sectors, from agriculture to healthcare. The country’s projected AI talent pool of over 1.25 million by 2027 positions it as a key player in driving innovation. However, there is a need to align skills with specific AI tasks to fully leverage this potential, emphasizing the importance of integrating Indian talent into US-led AI ecosystems.

To establish a lasting strategic advantage in AI, the article proposes a four-point plan for US-India collaboration. This includes linking India’s startup ecosystem with US resources to address global challenges, building resilient infrastructure and supply chains, fostering a high-skill talent ecosystem through cooperation, and aligning technological standards and policies to enhance bilateral cooperation and reduce friction.
