India has significantly increased its solar and wind energy capacity, with renewables now constituting more than half of its installed electricity capacity. The India Narrative article suggests that India’s experience could be pivotal in assisting Africa in expanding its renewable energy sector. Despite 600 million Africans lacking electricity access, the continent is making progress in renewable energy projects, presenting an opportunity for India to contribute its technology and expertise.

The article emphasizes that Africa, with abundant solar radiation, has committed to significant renewable energy capacity expansion between 2020 and 2025. Solar energy, in particular, is becoming a dominant source of new capacity in many African countries, offering a cost-effective alternative to gas-fired plants. Additionally, Africa’s mineral resources play a crucial role in the global clean energy supply chain, with materials like cobalt, copper, and lithium supporting renewable technologies.

Indian utilities have already initiated collaborations with African counterparts to enhance grid modernization, energy storage, and renewable energy integration. Partnerships like the one between Power Grid Corporation of India and Africa50 aim to facilitate cross-border transmission projects, reducing dependence on fossil fuel-based power generation. By sharing knowledge and resources, India and Africa can establish a renewable energy partnership that fosters growth, resilience, and sustainable power generation.
