India’s batting coach, Sitanshu Kotak, emphasized that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, India’s youngest international cricketer, was always in the team’s plans and didn’t need special preparation before his debut. Sooryavanshi, aged 15 years and 99 days, was chosen for his fearless style of play. Kotak mentioned that the focus remains on building a squad capable of defending the T20 World Cup in two years.
Kotak stated that Sooryavanshi was set to debut from the moment he joined the team, highlighting his game, instincts, and playing style. He added that there were no specific instructions given to the young cricketer. The Indian team is currently undergoing a transition under new captain Shreyas Iyer and managing the absence of key player Hardik Pandya, but the long-term goal remains unchanged.
Emphasizing the team’s aim to enhance batting, bowling, and fielding, Kotak mentioned the focus on preparing for the upcoming World Cup. Despite recent losses, Kotak stressed the team’s consistent efforts to improve. He also highlighted the importance of developing fast-bowling all-rounders in modern T20 cricket.
Kotak discussed the significance of exposure to international play for young players like Suryansh Shedge and Nitish Kumar Reddy. He noted that being with the team helps these players adjust to the environment and prepares them for future opportunities. Kotak acknowledged Hardik Pandya’s contribution to the team while emphasizing the preparation of the next generation for upcoming ICC tournaments.
Looking ahead to the third T20I at Trent Bridge, Kotak anticipated a high-scoring match, depending on the pitch conditions. He expected an exciting game based on the pitch dimensions but noted that the final outcome would be determined by the surface itself.
