The Indian U20 women’s national team encountered a 0-5 loss against Australia at the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 in Thailand. Skye Halmarick’s hat-trick and goals from Danella Brutus and Daisy Brown secured Australia’s victory. Despite a strong start by India, they remain at the bottom of Group C with no points after two matches.

A win in their upcoming game against Chinese Taipei could still grant Joakim Alexandersson’s team a chance to progress to the knockout stages. The Young Tigresses displayed early promise with aggressive counter-attacks against Australia’s possession-based strategy.

In the match, Australia’s Avaani Prakash and Cindy Colney posed threats to India’s defense, with Halmarick converting a penalty and scoring two more goals. The Young Matildas’ dominance continued post-break, leading to a comprehensive victory.

India fought back throughout the game, with Monalisha making crucial saves, but Australia’s strong performance sealed a 5-0 win. Despite the defeat, India showed glimpses of potential, with opportunities missed in the attacking third.
