India’s stand-in bowling coach Sunil Joshi commended Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for his remarkable performance in the T20I series opener against Zimbabwe. Sooryavanshi’s quick 18-ball fifty, including four boundaries and as many sixes, established him as the youngest player to achieve a half-century in international cricket. His explosive innings propelled India to a comfortable victory in pursuit of 126 runs, securing a 1-0 lead in the series.
Joshi expressed satisfaction with Sooryavanshi’s batting prowess, highlighting his past successes in the U19 World Cup finals and the recent match. Looking ahead, Joshi mentioned plans to work on Sooryavanshi’s bowling skills at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru to further enhance his overall game.
Addressing comparisons with emerging talent Suryansh Shedge, Joshi emphasized the importance of nurturing young players like Sooryavanshi in the competitive T20 cricket arena. Joshi also acknowledged the spin-bowling potential of top-order batsmen Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma, underscoring their capabilities despite limited exposure at the international level.
