India’s Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squads and schedule for the upcoming Under-19 white-ball series against Sri Lanka. The series, consisting of three T20s in Chennai and three One-Day matches in Puducherry, will serve as a crucial platform for emerging women cricketers. Bhavika Ahire has been appointed as the wicketkeeper-batter and captain for both formats, showcasing her leadership skills and past cricket performances.

Supporting Ahire will be Mahak Narwase, who will serve as the vice-captain for both the T20 and One-Day teams. The squads include players who have progressed through domestic and junior levels, emphasizing a focus on nurturing talent within India’s youth cricket system. The selection process has maintained a strong core while also incorporating specialist options tailored to the requirements of T20 and 50-over cricket, indicating a strategic approach to player development and team building.

The squads feature promising young talents such as Ira Jadhav, Ishwari Awasare, Purva Siwach, Kumari Palak, Kashvi Kandikuppa, Gouri Goyal, Janvi Vikar, and Anaadi Tagde. These players have been selected in both formats, underscoring their growing influence in the junior setup and offering them a chance to gain international exposure. The upcoming series holds significance for women’s age-group cricket, serving as a vital platform for players aspiring to make a mark in higher levels of the sport.

The Under-19 structure has become a crucial pathway for young cricketers aiming for senior national recognition. Bilateral series like this provide invaluable experiences that contribute to the overall development of players, helping them adapt to different challenges and scenarios. With India’s women’s cricket system witnessing a steady influx of talent from youth cricket to the senior team, the series against Sri Lanka will be closely monitored by selectors and team management to identify potential stars for future tournaments.
