Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono landed in New Delhi on Sunday for the 8th India-Indonesia Joint Commission Meeting. The Ministry of External Affairs welcomed FM Sugiono, who will co-chair the meeting with EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar. They aim to review the strong Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and explore ways to enhance bilateral cooperation.
The Joint Commission Meeting will serve as a platform for both countries to assess the progress of their cooperation. The establishment of a Joint Commission Mechanism (JCM) at the Foreign Ministers’ level dates back to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in January 2001.
During the 7th JCM held on June 17, 2022, in New Delhi, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar and former Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi co-chaired the meeting. This was confirmed by a statement from the Consulate General of India in Bali.
In a recent development on May 14, EAM Jaishankar met with Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono to discuss advancements in the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and ASEAN collaboration. The meeting occurred on the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Delhi, where EAM Jaishankar presided over the proceedings.
