The bodies of an infant and a toddler were discovered after a fire ravaged a slum cluster in Lucknow’s Vikas Nagar area. The victims, identified as two-year-old Shruti and her two-month-old sister, were the daughters of a local resident named Satish from Barabanki district.
Deeksha Sharma, DCP East, Lucknow, confirmed the tragic incident, stating that the bodies were recovered and handed over to the family. The fire, which started in a vacant plot near the Ring Road, spread rapidly through the settlement due to strong winds and combustible materials in the huts.
Eyewitnesses reported thick black smoke and flames engulfing the area, causing panic among residents. The proximity of hotels and automobile showrooms added to the concerns as chaos ensued with people trying to salvage their belongings amidst the devastation.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak expressed deep sorrow over the incident, emphasizing the need for providing quality care to the injured. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, with ongoing rescue and relief operations at the site.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed officials to expedite relief efforts and ensure necessary support for the affected individuals. Rescue teams, including police and fire departments, are actively involved in the operations, working to uncover the origin of the fire as the investigation progresses.
