Infineon Technologies has signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) to enhance semiconductor skills and workforce development in India. The agreement, announced in Ahmedabad on January 14, 2026, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, marks a significant advancement in building India’s chip ecosystem.

Under this partnership, Infineon will collaborate closely with NIELIT to create and implement training programs focusing on semiconductor assembly, testing, and packaging. This initiative includes updating course content, organizing expert-led seminars, conducting “train the trainer” programs, and providing equipment to facilitate practical learning.

Infineon CEO Jochen Hanebeck, who was part of the German business delegation accompanying the Chancellor during his inaugural visit to India, emphasized that India’s efforts to establish a robust semiconductor ecosystem align well with Infineon’s expertise in power systems and Internet of Things technologies. This collaboration underscores Infineon’s enduring commitment to India as not just a market but also a significant innovation and research center, aiming to cultivate a skilled workforce to support the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

NIELIT, operating under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, is a crucial player in technical education and skill development nationwide. Prof. M. M. Tripathi, Director General of NIELIT, highlighted that the partnership with Infineon represents a pivotal step towards India’s semiconductor aspirations. By combining NIELIT’s extensive training network across the country with Infineon’s global manufacturing proficiency, the collaboration aims to prepare Indian youth for careers in the semiconductor industry, contributing to the nation’s goal of achieving self-reliance in critical technologies.

In addition to the MoU, Infineon conducted a two-day workshop in New Delhi from January 12 to 13, in association with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Themed “Semiconductors – A Key Enabler for Viksit Bharat 2047: From Vision to Reality,” the event brought together global industry experts, government officials, and policymakers to explore strategies for establishing a competitive semiconductor ecosystem in India.
