The investigation into the Mira Road stabbing case in Mumbai has escalated, focusing on alleged radical connections and newly discovered materials from the accused Zeab Zubair Ansari’s residence. A handwritten letter purportedly found at Ansari’s home contained references to ISIS, including a hand-drawn flag and extremist messages like “Lone wolves will pounce on you” and mentions of “jihad in Bilad al-Hind.”
Sources reveal that the letter also encouraged youth to join the Islamic State, disregarding family concerns, and referred to followers as “Ghuraba (outsiders).” Considered a vital piece of evidence, the letter’s authenticity and significance are currently under scrutiny by investigators.
Authorities disclosed that Ansari attempted to erase evidence by resetting one of his mobile phones. Additionally, he allegedly discarded another device, which investigative agencies are now tracing. The case originated from a violent knife assault in Mumbai’s Mira Road area, where two security guards were gravely injured. The accused initially sought directions to a mosque from one guard but later returned to confront them over their religious identity.
The attacker reportedly coerced the victims to recite religious phrases and, upon their failure, launched the assault. Both the guard and his supervisor sustained severe injuries. Ansari was swiftly apprehended from a nearby rented accommodation. A subsequent search yielded a laptop, religious materials, and handwritten notes, currently undergoing forensic analysis.
The investigation remains active, with various agencies collaborating to verify alleged connections, digital evidence, and the contents of recovered materials to ascertain the attack’s motive.
