The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended Deepak Gahlawat, a 2012-batch IPS officer from Haryana cadre, who is presently serving on Central deputation with the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) in Delhi. The arrest is linked to a bribery case involving the officer’s purported demand for illegal gratification to influence CBI investigations concerning counterfeit drug sales in Puducherry.
In a related development, the CBI had previously detained a Delhi Police Inspector and six private individuals, recovering a significant amount of money during the operation. Subsequent searches at various locations associated with the IPS officer led to the seizure of digital devices, hard disks, and pertinent documents. The investigation is ongoing, with more information pending.
In a separate incident, the CBI recently took into custody the manager of Punjab National Bank’s Bhadrauli branch in Agra’s Barhan area over alleged bribery charges. The arrest followed a complaint by a private company employee, accusing the bank manager of soliciting bribes for processing solar panel loan applications. The accused purportedly agreed to accept a bribe to clear the sanctioned loan files.
