Iran and Oman engaged in technical discussions in Tehran regarding safe navigation through the vital Strait of Hormuz. The talks, described as productive and forward-thinking by Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei, focused on ensuring safe maritime traffic while respecting both countries’ sovereign rights.
The discussions, led by Deputy Foreign Ministers from both nations, aimed to establish common principles and practical mechanisms for safe passage through the strategic waterway. Oman’s delegation concluded their visit on Saturday, with plans for ongoing technical and political consultations between the two countries.
Despite tensions in the region due to recent military incidents involving the US and Iran, the status of maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz remains unchanged. This narrow strait connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea, serving as a crucial route for global energy exports.
In a separate development, the US Central Command confirmed the continuation of its naval blockade against Iran. Recent actions included redirecting commercial vessels, boarding ships for verification, and disabling a tanker that allegedly breached the blockade. The US forces remain vigilant and prepared for further operations in the region.
