Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, announced that Iran has suspended its commitments under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United States. Gharibabadi stated that the US violated its obligations under the MoU, leading Iran to take similar actions. The decision was made to defend the country against perceived aggression from the US.
Gharibabadi emphasized that Iran’s response aims to teach a lesson to the US for its actions. Iran’s main military command, Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, issued a warning against potential US attacks on Iranian power plants and bridges. The warning highlighted the possibility of a devastating response across West Asia in case of such attacks.
In response to threats by US President Donald Trump, Ebrahim Zolfaghari, the spokesman for the military headquarters, warned of severe consequences if the US targets Iranian infrastructure. Zolfaghari stressed that Iran’s armed forces would deliver a response that is more severe, widespread, and devastating than before. Trump had previously mentioned expanding strikes on Iran if negotiations were not pursued.
The US military has conducted multiple strikes on Iran’s southern provinces recently, citing Iranian armed forces’ actions in the Strait of Hormuz. The attacks were described as efforts to degrade Iran’s capability to threaten commercial shipping. The situation remains tense between the two nations, with escalating rhetoric and military actions.
