Mohammad Fathali, Iran’s Ambassador to India, expressed gratitude to the Indian government for supporting Iran against a UN Human Rights Council resolution. The resolution, adopted with 25 in favor, 7 against, and 14 abstentions, condemned the violent crackdown on protests in Iran. It extended the mandates of the Fact-Finding Mission and the Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran.
The resolution urged Iran to uphold human rights obligations and investigate violations during the protests. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar discussed the situation with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi. Indian nationals were advised to avoid travel to Iran due to the ongoing developments and protests in the country.
India had earlier issued a similar advisory to its citizens regarding travel to Iran. The Ministry of External Affairs advised caution, avoidance of protest areas, and registration with the Indian Embassy for Indian nationals in Iran.
