Eskandar Momeni, Iran’s Minister of Interior, arrived in New Delhi for the BRICS Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Risk Reduction. The meeting, hosted by India’s National Disaster Management Authority, aims to enhance security cooperation and address common threats among BRICS member states. Minister Momeni will engage in discussions on internal security, counter-terrorism, disaster management, and border security cooperation during the event.
The BRICS Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Risk Reduction, chaired by Minister of State Nityanand Rai, signifies a crucial step in strengthening cooperation within the group. This gathering highlights the recognition of disasters as systemic risks to sustainable development, climate resilience, and human security. The event will also feature a High-Level Policy Dialogue focusing on climate-smart and disaster-resilient infrastructure systems.
The BRICS Disaster Risk Reduction Group has evolved significantly since its inception, with a focus on enhancing disaster management strategies and cooperation. The meeting, themed “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability,” concludes a year-long process of technical consultations among BRICS member countries. The session will witness the participation of Ministers and Heads of Delegations from 10 BRICS member countries, emphasizing their commitment to disaster risk reduction efforts.
