Iran’s Interior Minister, Eskandar Momeni, speaking at the BRICS Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Risk Reduction in New Delhi, condemned the violation of Iran’s territorial integrity and the killing of civilians as a clear breach of the United Nations charter and international law. He called on BRICS member states to take a strong stance against such aggression and attacks on critical infrastructure.

Momeni highlighted the importance of a unified BRICS voice in defending international law, national sovereignty, and opposing the use of force to enhance global peace and security. He emphasized the need for multilateral cooperation among BRICS nations to address global challenges, including disaster risk reduction and crisis management.

The Iranian Minister stressed the significance of resilience in managing natural disasters and other crises, noting Iran’s experience in handling various hazards. He proposed strengthening BRICS cooperation in disaster risk reduction through operational plans, training programs, and joint exercises among member states. Momeni also suggested transforming BRICS into a global model for disaster prevention and protection of critical infrastructure.

India’s BRICS Chairship, under the theme of ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability’, aims to foster collaboration among major emerging markets and developing countries. The platform serves as a forum for discussing global issues and enhancing economic governance.
