Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has confirmed the death of its secretary, Ali Larijani, in an attack, as reported by Iran’s Tasnim news agency. The council also mentioned that Larijani’s son, Morteza Larijani, deputy for security affairs Alireza Bayat, and others were killed in the incident. The council praised Larijani’s contributions to Iran’s development and called for national unity in the face of external threats.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that Israel was responsible for the killing of Larijani in ongoing strikes on Iran. Additionally, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps confirmed the death of Gholamreza Soleimani, the head of the Basij volunteer force, in a US-Israeli strike. These incidents occurred amid escalating tensions in the region following attacks between the US, Israel, Iran, and their allies.
Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi denied reports of any new contact with Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff. Furthermore, Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei rejected proposals to ease tensions or negotiate a ceasefire with the United States. The IRGC also launched a new ballistic missile named “Haj Qasem” against Israel, emphasizing its precision-guided capabilities and honoring the late commander Qassem Soleimani.
