The Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) reported that three of its members died and four others were injured in an explosion set by the Islamic State (IS) in Nineveh province. The incident took place during their duties in the desert area, as per a CTS statement.
Despite the loss, the service affirmed its commitment to pursuing terrorist remnants and safeguarding Iraq’s security and stability. In a separate operation, four IS militants were killed in Kirkuk province through airstrikes and ground missions conducted by the Iraqi military.
Iraq, though declaring victory over IS in 2017, continues to face sporadic attacks by the group’s remnants targeting security forces and civilians. Recent intensified aerial and ground offensives aim to root out suspected IS elements, with recent airstrikes in Kirkuk province resulting in the deaths of three militants.
