Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has commended the bold style displayed by the younger generation, citing the example of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi confidently facing top international bowlers in the IPL 2026. Pathan noted the shift in mindset where age and reputation no longer hinder young players from making an impact at the highest level.
“It’s an exciting time for Indian cricket,” Pathan remarked, emphasizing the fearless attitude and lack of inhibition among the emerging talents. He highlighted a specific instance where a 15-year-old, Sooryavanshi, fearlessly took on one of Australia’s best fast bowlers, showcasing the vibrant spirit in Indian cricket currently. Pathan shared his observations during the EUT20 Belgium jersey launch event, where he discussed the evolving landscape of the sport.
Pathan also discussed his role in the upcoming EUT20 Belgium tournament, where he is a co-owner and brand ambassador of Ghent Gladiators. Scheduled for June, the league aims to boost cricket’s popularity in mainland Europe and provide a platform for budding players. In collaboration with the Belgian Cricket Federation, the tournament will feature five franchises representing major cities, with matches set to be held in Brussels from June 6 to 14 at the 12 Stars Cricket Club in Hofstade.
Expressing enthusiasm for the initiative and its potential for young cricketers, Pathan highlighted the increasing talent pool in associate nations. He mentioned the inclusion of players like Ben Manenti from Italy in his team, Ghent Gladiators, underscoring the exciting prospects emerging from various regions. Pathan emphasized the opportunities the league will offer to lesser-known talents, aiming to create a competitive environment that nurtures both local and international cricketing experience.
