Israel announced the killing of Ali Larijani, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary, stating he was a key figure in Iran’s leadership and a close ally of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) reported that Larijani, who oversaw the recent crackdown on Iranian protestors, was eliminated during ongoing protests against the Iranian regime. Despite Israel’s claim, social media accounts linked to Larijani shared a statement about the funeral of Iranian sailors killed in a recent US attack.
After the death of Khamenei, Larijani assumed a leadership role in Iran, leading efforts against Israel and regional countries. The news of Larijani’s death emerged shortly after his participation in an International Quds Day rally in Tehran. Additionally, IDF confirmed the killing of Basij Unit commander Gholamreza Soleimani, who had been in charge of the unit’s repressive operations in Iran for six years. Israel also targeted Iranian regime infrastructure in Tehran, Shiraz, and Tabriz, striking command centers, ballistic missile sites, and air defense systems.
