The Israel Defence Force (IDF) has instructed residents in Nabatiyeh, Lebanon, to evacuate to safer areas, citing Hezbollah’s breach of the ceasefire agreement. Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee emphasized the need for immediate evacuation, urging residents to move north of the Zahrani River to ensure their safety. The IDF had previously issued similar alerts for several villages in Lebanon, following Hezbollah’s violations.
The IDF’s actions come in response to Hezbollah’s violation of the ceasefire agreement, with the Defence Army taking forceful measures against the terrorist group. The IDF clarified that the evacuation was a precautionary measure to protect civilians from potential harm posed by Hezbollah elements and their combat resources. Structures in the affected villages were targeted by IDF strikes, as they were allegedly being used by Hezbollah for planning attacks against IDF forces and Israel.
Israel’s Chief of the General Staff, Eyal Zamir, confirmed that Israeli forces are actively targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon across various domains. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, along with Defence Minister Israel Katz and Eyal Zamir, held a security consultation in Tel Aviv to address the escalating situation. Despite a ceasefire announced in April, Israel has maintained its presence in southern Lebanon, conducting daily strikes on Hezbollah targets.
Amid the escalating tensions, the US State Department revealed plans for political negotiations between Israel and Lebanon on June 2-3, with parallel security talks scheduled at the Pentagon on May 29. The discussions aim to address the ongoing military confrontations and seek a resolution to the conflict.
