Fast bowler Issy Wong expressed her joy at being selected for England’s squad for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, especially as the tournament opener will be held at her home ground, Edgbaston, on June 12. Making her debut for England in 2022, Issy has played in 17 T20Is, securing 13 wickets at an average of 29.76. She described her inclusion as a dream come true and a goal she had been aiming for.
England is scheduled to face New Zealand in an ODI series followed by a T20I series before taking on India in another T20I series leading up to the global tournament. Issy emphasized the significance of performing well in the upcoming matches to have the opportunity to play in front of home fans at the World Cup.
Ali Maiden, the head coach of Warwickshire Women, praised Issy’s selection, stating that it was well-deserved. He highlighted Issy’s experience and composure, expressing confidence in her ability to excel in the tournament. England, the 2009 champions, will kick off their campaign against Sri Lanka at Edgbaston on June 12 in Group 2 of the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup.
