Italy’s Ministry of Health is investigating a suspected case of Ebola in Cagliari involving a patient who recently returned from Congo. The patient, showing symptoms, has undergone an Ebola test, with results awaited from Spallanzani in Rome.
Currently, the patient is isolated at a hospital facility in Cagliari. The Ministry of Health is collaborating with local health authorities in Sardinia and Spallanzani to monitor the situation closely, as reported by Adnkronos news agency.
The patient is being treated at the Infectious Diseases department of Santissima Trinita hospital in Cagliari. Samples for virus confirmation have been sent to Rome via air ambulance, with all necessary protective measures activated at Is Mirrionis hospital.
Italy’s government is calling for increased surveillance coordination in Europe to prevent Ebola spread. Prime Minister Georgia Meloni’s office announced sending experts to Congo from Rome’s Spallanzani hospital to aid in controlling the outbreak and enhancing virus monitoring.
