Italy’s Ambassador to India, Antonio Bartoli, stressed the urgent need to resolve the ongoing conflict in West Asia, highlighting India and Italy’s shared commitment to promoting dialogue for peace. Bartoli emphasized the importance of ending the war swiftly to maintain stable energy resources at reasonable prices.
Bartoli underscored the mutual priorities of Italy and India in encouraging de-escalation, diplomatic dialogue, and pacification to halt the conflict promptly. He also mentioned the significant presence of Italian nationals in the Gulf region, including tourists stranded in the Maldives, emphasizing the broader impact of the conflict beyond the battlefield.
Oil prices experienced a notable decline, falling below $90 per barrel, following US President Donald Trump’s remarks on the potential conclusion of the Middle East conflict. Bartoli praised India’s growing influence on the global stage as a reliable and prudent actor, citing recent discussions between the Indian External Affairs Minister and his Italian counterpart regarding the crisis in West Asia.
The Ambassador highlighted the adverse effects of the West Asia conflict on the domestic market, leading to increased consumer costs, elevated transportation expenses, and higher insurance premiums. Bartoli expressed optimism about the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Europe and India, viewing it as a catalyst for enhanced trade and investments between the two regions.
