Rising golfer Jackson Koivun set a new tournament record with a remarkable 10-under 61 in the third round of the 3M Open, taking the lead at 20-under par. The 21-year-old, in just his third professional event, showcased his talent with six birdies and two eagles, dominating the back nine with an eight-under 28.
Koivun’s rapid ascent from collegiate success to PGA Tour competitiveness has been impressive, with this tournament marking his 13th Tour start. Despite a rocky start as a professional, he now stands on the brink of claiming his first PGA Tour title.
Chasing Koivun closely are Ben Kohles and Emiliano Grillo, both at 17-under par, three shots behind the leader. Kohles and Grillo maintained their positions with solid five-under 66 rounds, keeping the pressure on the frontrunner.
Michael Kim, who made headlines with a 12-under 59 earlier, couldn’t replicate his success and slipped to a tie for sixth at 15-under after a one-under 70 in the third round. Meanwhile, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler surged into a tie for ninth at 14-under after a stellar seven-under 64 round.
Indian golfer Sudarshan Yellamaraju missed the cut, while Sahith Theegala, Aaron Rai, and Akshay Bhatia chose not to participate. With a comfortable three-shot lead, Jackson Koivun heads into the final round as the favorite to clinch his first PGA Tour victory.
